Mid-February is special and particularly beautiful time in the Sacramento Valley; the time when the hundreds of thousands of acres of almond trees bloom.
California produces 80% of the world's almonds, and winter wouldn't be complete without the endless sea of white flowers that appear for two weeks every year.
Here is a sample of what the orchards look like during the bloom (you can see my full set of almond orchard images on my main website):
So beautiful! I like especially #4 and 5. Where did you take them?
ReplyDeleteSally, number 4 was taken just outside College City in Colusa County (there is neither a college nor a city there). Number 5 was taken at the south end of the Sutter Buttes in Sutter County.
ReplyDeleteDear Tony,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information! I'm from LA, but currently residing in East Sacramento on a temporary job assignment. It took me for a while to start liking this city, but the spring came and the nature's beauty really opened up my eyes, just like your pictures did and now I really enjoy living in this city with lots of flowers and trees.:-) Haven't had a chance to been to Colusa County nor Sutter county, but would love to one day -- before too late, though lol
And I'm looking for plum flower photos... preferably pink ones... do you have them on your site?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful almond orchard pix. Would you license your pix for use on a packaging label of an almond based cookie? My email is leonoziel@rogers.com
ReplyDeleteHi. Your photos of the almond blossom are exquisite! Our surname is Almendras. Like most Filipinos, we trace our roots to Spain hence the Spanish term for almonds. I would like to request your permission to use photo no.2 for the cover of our genealogy book that I am putting together. If you agree, a citation attributing the photo to you will appear in the inside front cover. Thank you so much. Email ad is papworthmt@gmail.com
