This spring I had the great good fortune to be able to get out and photograph the foothills along the west edge of the Sacramento Valley. This area, dotted with 'towns' (if you can call them that) like Newville, Paskenta and Red Bank, is one of the most beautiful regions of California, and one of the least known.
Parched, hot and dry in the summer, this range of rolling hills turn emerald green for a month or so in the spring, providing wonderful opportunities to the landscape photographer. I went out several times in late March and early April to capture some of that beauty. Here's a bit of what I saw:
